Try to capture the light-source by Nayshi-Erol Try to capture the light-source by Nayshi-Erol
Taking some pictures for the "Equestria News" magazine.

Finally! I've done it. Actually the hardest part was the composition(perspective and the character-placement) and the coloring of Rainbow Dash, which initially resulted in hiding her on the background. >< Ah, she gave me quiet a headache!
Also, I don't have a premium membership, so I can't request critics, which I would love to receive!

I just now got around to cleaning out my inbox after my last round months ago. I rarely try to get more than a few things at a time because I don't have the time, and this was THE last thing I needed to go through after my last big sweep. can't believe I never got around to commenting on this. I even had this as my background on my now old laptop. The posing and expressions are seriously top-notch, and I love the way the entire perspective is angled. My only critique is to give Pinkie an arm-rest to lean on, because she looks like her balance is heavily shifted towards her right side.

WOW! This is amazing. The ponies are beautiful (I particularly love Applejack's expression) and the lighting is so realistic that I feel as if I'm actually in the studio with the characters.

i think it looks great. tbh, being a photographer, the only flaw that stands out to me is the soft light, it seems slightly out of place, kinda looks like it pointing to somewhere behind rarity... but other than that, i love the angled persepctive, the soft shading coming in from the window, the placement for the ponies coudnt be much better, and i love the picture of spike on the bottom

the glare in their eyes is also a little troubling.. the glare looks like its coming from an extra light source thats behind the viewer

Is this made traditionally or digitally? Because it toally looks like it's made with, like, watercolors or crayons. Either way, it looks AWESOME, especially with the expressions~

Totally made digitally, it's funny that you noticed the "traditional touch" in this, because I actually study oil painting in school, and my CG drawing process is very similar to painting on canvas.

Oh, interesting! Both the fact that this piece is not traditional and that there are actual schools where you study oli-painings! XD

It also interesting me quite much how one can paint digitally as if pointing traditionally. Care to explain how you do it? (Or is there some sort of tutorial-video you'd be kind enough to share?)

Well, I don't record how I paint, but I'm sure you can find someone with similar painting technique, for example Sycra and Matt Kohr. Using a digital tablet can be very similar to painting with oils. Although I personally don't like watercolors, there sure is a way to paint in this style too.

Yeah, I too didn't know those schools exist before I got into one. XD
We pretty much just ditch the ordinary math and literature and study drawing, painting and composition as if those were physics lectures. :)

Oooh, that seems so cool! I wouldn't personally mind ditching those pesky natural science-classes for more interesting and practical topics! And I guess those schools are kinda those things you can't even know exists if you don't dig a little deeper into things!
I'm pretty sure there would've been those kind of schools here in Finland as well if I'd done the research before I applied for the second grade-schools. But whatever, an ordinary high school is fine too~

Thanks for telling, I'll be sure to check those two out when I get my computer back. Then, with that knowledge (and hopefully a drawing tablet), maybe one day I'll be able to do real art digitally... :P

Absolutely stunningly gorgeous! You're composition is vivid and striking. Your unique style with drawing the ponies is unique but still recognizable. The shading and reflections are complex but not over-bearing. What seems simple at first glance is actually rather complex. I'm in love! Great work :)

This is stunning! Your style is unique, but more than that, it's so cohesive and evocative! Especially (and of course you've been told this a million times) your command of facial expressions. The characters' emotions come across so clearly and believably that it's easy to get lost in your pictures. And it goes without saying that your abilities with light are tremendous.
Which is a lot of gushing to say: Hey. Really good job.
